5 Best Freestanding Dishwashers (Full Size)

Welcome to our post on the 5 best full-size freestanding dishwashers.

A freestanding dishwasher provides more flexibility than an integrated dishwasher, and can be easily moved, which is especially useful if you are planning to move house in the near future. If you are looking for an integrated option instead, then please see this post on the 5 best full-size integrated dishwashers.

  3. BEST UNDER £300: Beko DFN05R11W
  4. BEST VALUE: Bosch Serie 2

A dishwasher has become a regular sight at modern kitchens and is a really convenient appliance. When you’re busy at work all day, no one wants to return home to plates, dishes, and cutlery to clean.

For convenience, the full-size model is preferred over other variants due to its superior load capacity and improved cleaning. It avoids needing to load, unload, and then reload other dishes because of purchasing a dishwasher with a capacity that was too small for your needs – that’s a regret you’ll harbour for years! When you have the space to install one in the kitchen, a full-size model is highly recommended to make life easier.

Avoid just taking a quick look at a product photo and purchasing the first one shown on Google. Instead, make use of our mini-reviews of the latest dishwashers to select the best one for your home. The reviews are quick to look over and have useful details to narrow down your selection quicker.

Is a Full Size Freestanding Dishwasher The Best Choice For You?

When looking to choose a dishwasher, there are always different things to consider before making your final selection. Factoring these things into your decision ensures you’ll get the right one for your home and lifestyle.

The most important factor to consider is size.

You could pick a model that you love, but will it fit into space in the kitchen? Be careful to accurately measure up space, so you don’t get a nasty surprise after you receive and unpack the dishwasher and go to slide it into place.

To help avoid this, we’ve provided the dimensions given by the manufacturer of each dishwasher under review. You can also find our UK Dishwasher Dimensions and Sizing Guide here.

If you aren’t able to fit a full-size model into your kitchen, then perhaps a slimline dishwasher or a compact table top dishwashers is a better choice for you.

Do you find yourself washing up regularly? Or, is your old dishwasher is too small for your family or household now? Look out for the number of place settings because that’s the industry’s way of indicating the capacity. The larger, full-size models have around 14 place settings with smaller models dropping to 10 place settings. This is why for families, bigger is better with dishwashers.

For high-quality, brand matters. You tend to get what you pay for in this market. The washing cycles are more comprehensive and perform best with top branded models over an economical choice.

The most basic choice is whether to purchase a freestanding or integrated dishwasher. When it comes to convenience, installation, and repositioning, we have to say that freestanding models are a breeze. For integrated ones, it’s important to be aware that there’s the labour required and they’re tougher to get installed. With that said, integrated models win on looks once installed, and you can even add a cupboard door to hide them if you prefer.

Also, don’t overlook the energy rating or water used per cycle. More affordable dishwashers typically consume extra energy and additional H2O per cycle. So, while you’ll save money on the purchase, they’ll more to operate. Furthermore, they don’t last as long, even when well-maintained. Therefore, they can be a bit of a false economy at times.

5 Best Full-Size Freestanding Dishwashers UK

Here we take a look at the best full-size freestanding dishwashers available on the market today.

#1 Miele G7102 SC – Best Dishwasher Available

Buy from Amazon
Miele G 7102 SC
Miele G7102 SC

The Miele G7102 SC wins our top spot.

This German brand is highly regarded for longevity, performance, and value. It’s on the premium end of the market for the price, but you get what you pay for. Their products have all the bells and whistles you come to expect in a top-of-the-line model.

On the servicing side, like most dishwashers, expect to need to get it maintained over time with replacement parts, etc. They tend to be a little pricier (just like with a luxury vehicle) because the parts and labour cost a bit more. However, for owners, they feel it’s worth it for the reduced hassle during the ownership period.

The Miele G7102 SC comes in either a white or Stainless-steel/ “Cleansteel” model. It has a convenient control panel at the front at the very top. This includes an attractive display, push buttons to select different cycle modes, and dryer modes too. Getting a complete cycle professionally done in under an hour is possible with normal soiling for the load.

The AutoOpen feature is interesting. It’s a patented one, so you won’t find it the same elsewhere! The door opens for you when the cycle is over. The door is easy to open to begin the loading process too, so you won’t strain yourself, which is good to hear.

It’s cool to learn that the water usage starts at just 6 litres on the Automatic program (which is way less than the economy models of other brands). There’s also an Eco Mode that runs at 50 degrees to save on power and supports mixed loads, a 45 degrees mode for glassware, and hotter ones if you need a deep clean cycle for heavy soiling.

One ingenious feature is Miele’s MultiFlex tray which adjusts position in a 3D motion to assist you in loading extra items when space is getting tight. However, only larger households should need this feature as there are 14 place settings supported.

While the model runs at 43 dB, there’s an Extra Quiet mode that usually runs at just 38 dB to avoid waking the kids! Also, besides the Economy mode, the Extra Dry mode ensures everything placed in the dishwasher dries perfectly, including plastic cups and the like.

When you want the best-in-class, the Miele G7102 SC should be at the top of your list. It has everything you could require and more.

#2 Bosch Serie 6 – Best Dishwasher For Mid-Tier Budget

Buy from Amazon / Buy from Appliances Direct

Bosch Serie 6 Full Size Dishwasher
Bosch Serie 6 Full Size Dishwasher

The Bosch Serie 6 is regarded well enough and packed with features. Subsequently, it gets our second spot. It is far more affordable than the premium Miele yet comes with a familiar set of features that are seen on both the Miele G7102 SC and this model too. So much so, it’s easy when looking at both products to get a sense of déjà vu!

The control panel is slicker than most dishwashers under review. The left-side features many similar washing cycles and drying modes. There’s an Eco Mode at the usual 50 degrees, a 40 degree one for glassware, and an Intense mode at 70 degrees (the Miele does have two modes with hotter temperatures).

The centre features the display which confirms the timer and various settings in place. It’s both bright and easy to read.

On the right side, there’s also a Hygiene plus mode, along with an Extra Dry for perfectly dry dishes and a Machine Care one to keep the appliance running better. There are also speed controls and a timer to set when the dishwasher should start the cycle (ideal for when you want to set it for overnight and go to bed early).

The Bosch Serie 6 has 14 place settings in all. The Rackmatic system is also partially height adjustable for taller plates too. This model has a three-tray VarioDrawer system which includes a separate cutlery tray. This is great because it prevents the cutlery from cutting down on space to add bowls and plates for cleaning.

The standard cycle requires around 9.5 litres of water which is over 50% more than the Miele model. The Zeolith PerfectDry system uses airflow in all directions to dry plastic, china, and stainless steel. Different heat modes not only allow for perfectly dried and clean contents but have temperature controls up to 70 degrees Centigrade for the ultimate in hygiene.

The Eco Mode not only lowers the heat level to save on energy, but it also reduces the decibels to between a 42-45 dB level. Also, water usage is controlled through an AquaSensor that measures how much soiling is present while beams of light confirm when items no longer need rinsing. Also, the IntenseZone is there for your pots and pans that need greater effort when stored in the bottom tray.

Durability is key with the Bosch. They have a strong reputation for lasting for many years. Just like most dishwashers, they will need replacement parts for ones that wear out, repairs are harder to execute, and maintenance will be required. However, the solidly built models keep on going when taken care of providing long-term value.

The warranty with this model is the 10-year rust-through warranty for the inner tub. There’s a lifetime warranty specifically against water damage.

  • Capacity: 14 place settings
  • Dimensions: 60cm (w) x 60cm (d) x 84.5cm (h)
  • Weight: 53.3kg
  • Energy rating: A+++
  • Noise level: 44dB
  • Warranty: 10-years for rust and lifetime for water damage

#3 Beko DFN05R11W – Best Dishwasher Under £300

Buy from Amazon
Beko DFN05R11 Freestanding 60cm Dishwasher (Side)
Beko DFN05R11 Freestanding 60cm Dishwasher (Side)

In 2020, Beko claims to be the number one best-selling brand for large home appliances in the UK. While companies jockey for position in these stakes, Beko products are more affordable than most and so we don’t doubt the claim.

The Beko DFN05R11W is a good full-size dishwasher for anyone looking for affordability, and a decent number of modes but not all the bells and whistles of the upmarket brands like Miele or Bosch. It comes in a choice of white, silver, or black colour schemes.

Effectively, you get what you pay for here, for better or worse. What this means is that these types of models won’t likely last as long as another brand with a price tag that’s double (or several times) the price. Therefore, expect to need to replace these dishwashers every few years. However, even accounting for this, they still offer excellent value for money.

The control panel at the top is positioned on the left side. It is a simple push-button affair with a turn dial to select the mode required. There are buttons to opt for a half-load and a start/stop button. Also, there are indicator lights to confirm a running cycle, when the machine is washing, drying, or the cycle has ended. Furthermore, there are lights to indicate either low salt or low rinse aid levels.

The modes include a basic Mini 30 degrees one, an Eco setting, a Quick & Shine, Clean & Shine, and an Intensive mode at increasing temperature levels up to 70 degrees for the Intensive one. The Mini 30 mode is done in 30 minutes, the Quick & Shine mode in 58 minutes – the Eco mode is closer to 90 minutes.

The model has two slide-out baskets supporting 13 place settings. There’s also a removable cutlery container that fits in the centre front of the bottom tray. None of the baskets are height adjustable for larger plates.

The mode uses 11.5 litres of water on a regular cycle, so it’s greedy with water usage than pricier models. The lower tray isn’t adjustable and will go off its rollers easily enough (but slots back into position just as quickly too).

UK audiences remember the phrase: “It does what it says on the tin” – this is a fair comment for Beko appliances and this dishwasher, particularly. It’s very capable, slightly noisier, uses more water, is a workhorse over time, has no digital readout or timer, and has fewer modes than its peers, but is still great for households wanting something dependable that won’t break the bank. Just don’t expect it to last forever!

The model comes with a 1-year warranty.

#4 Bosch Serie 2 – Best Value Dishwasher

Buy from Amazon
Bosch Serie 2 Full Size Dishwasher
Bosch Serie 2 Full Size Dishwasher

The Bosch Serie 2 is the budget range for the manufacturer (we reviewed the Bosch Serie 6 earlier). Here, they’re appealing to homeowners looking for a more affordable model but still backed by a German brand that people trust.

The front control panel has an ON/OFF button to the far left and the main controls all on the right side. The turn dial knob accesses the different modes like Eco at 50 degrees, Quick, Glass, Intensive, etc. There’s also an LED display that sets this model apart from lesser ones without a display at all. To the far right is the Start timer setting – yes, there’s a timer too – along with an Extra Dry and Vario Speed feature.

The model comes with three baskets include a top cutlery one, a secondary one for small glasses and other low-height items, and a lower tray for plates, bowls, pans, and other larger items. The baskets support a total of 13 settings, including one as the glassware. They’re also adjustable to allow more space for big plates and tall glassware too.

As a nice addition, the Extra Dry feature dries all the contents, including plastics. The variable speed lets you keep your china and glass safe too. The inclusion of the timer makes it possible to set the dishwasher to run a cycle late evening or while out doing other handy things.

The energy rating is A++ which isn’t as high as the top models but is still better than the Beko one reviewed directly above. Also, for water usage, around 9.5 litres are used for a standard cycle – this sits in the middle of what’s possible based on model selection.

Also, the inclusion of a child-lock for the door is no-doubt welcomed by families with young children sporting inquisitive hands.

The Bosch Serie 2 gives the Beko model reviewed above a run for its money. If your budget will stretch to it, then it’s likely to provide good long-term value. The adjustable height baskets and a digital timer will be handier than buyers believe at first, so don’t dismiss them.

  • Capacity: 13 place settings
  • Dimensions: 60cm (w) x 60cm (d) x 84.5cm (h)
  • Weight: 48.6kg
  • Energy rating: A++
  • Noise level: 48dB
  • Warranty: 10-year guarantee for rusting on the inner tub

INDESIT DFG15B1 Dishwasher
INDESIT DFG15B1 Dishwasher

Note: We’ve seen some sellers incorrectly list this product as a slimline model, however the Indesit DFG15b1 is a full size model at 60cm wide.

The Indesit DFG15b1 isn’t easy to say fast three times, but they do have an economy model that aims to outdo Beko’s one.

It doesn’t have an LED display either, so you’re relying on a dial knob to select between different washing modes for your plates, bowls, glassware, and cutlery. Not that we were too worried, but the model also has flood protection too.

There are indicator lights for different stages of a dishwashing cycle. The usual Eco, Quick, Glassware, Pre-Rinse, and Intensive modes are all present and correct. A quick wash only needs 40 minutes when there’s minimal plate soiling. There’s also a useful indicator when the salt or rinse aid needs topping up too.

The two baskets, along with a cutlery one allow for 13 place settings. This is spacious enough for big pots and larger plates, facilitated by baskets with adjustable levels.

The A+ energy rating is on par with Beko’s model. It emits 49 decibels when running. It’s also several kilos heavier than the Beko model, so moving it around is slightly more difficult for small-framed buyers.

This Indesit DFG15b1 has plenty of people who love it. It’s comparable to the Beko model in many ways and has some extras like adjustable baskets too.

  • Dimensions: 60cm (w) x 59cm (d) x 85cm (h)
  • Weight: 47kg

  • Noise level: 49dB

Our Rationale For Choosing The Top Rated Freestanding Dishwashers

Before we end this post, we wanted to inform our readers as to how we decide which dishwashers make our top 5 list. We do extensive research into each machine, then compile all that information and decide what we think is best. These posts are in our own humble opinion. Some readers may or may not agree.

This is how we make our decisions (in no particular order).

Ease of Use

We believe that any appliance should be simple to operate and that is no different with a dishwasher. With all the many features and functions available, it is important to us that the least appliance aware people are able to use the dishwashers without struggle.

Build Quality

We do tend to find certain manufactures are the best dishwasher brands, but more of the smaller companies tend to have a better build quality. Bosch being a prime example. What is build quality? We take every design feature into consideration such as; loading, display, indicators, sturdiness. Once we’ve weighed up all the evidence, we rate it accordingly.

A good dishwasher will have a large interior with good design. Therefore you will be able to load all the items you need washed. When loading large items like pot and pans. Dishwashers can become complicated. Due to the door and racking, crockery tetris can be required. But we aim to minimize this problem for you. So again we do our due diligence to ensure we bring to you the most uncomplicated dishwashers on the market.

Wash & Drying Power

Of course, the main reason for buying a dishwasher is cleaning up mess. Performance is a vital. We take into account the rating it has be given and the customer reviews. What’s more not only do you want clean crockery, with modern technology, it’s not rude to assume they should be dried!

Likewise, we look at the rating it has been given, but more importantly we look at what current owners have said about it. In our experience, we know the biggest misconception manufacturers say about their products, is the drying capabilities. If the drying feature is worth noting, we make sure we have in our reviews.

Energy Rating

It is vitally important that all dishwashers are Eco friendly. With the amount of pollution the world is subject to, today everyone can make little improvements to change that. Also, with efficient dishwashers you can lower your bills and cap the amount of waste produced. Many of the top dishwashers will have good ratings. They will only use the minimal amount of resources to complete a full cycle. A dishwasher that costs over £52 a year to run is considered non-economical.

Value for Money

With every individual aspect of a certain model noted, we then check the price for a reflection of quality. When we consider a unit of value we write a review. We also highlight which models are the best for a certain price. Value for money will always be key. It’s easy enough for a machine to say it can do a cycle in such time, but we always double check that it lives up to it’s promise. We believe all the dishwashers in our list are good value for there money. However, some more than others.

Customer reviews

We take the time to filter through hundreds of reviews about every dishwasher. Current owners are the best source of information regarding all aspects. We recommend you checkout all reviews before continuing to make a purchase.

Best Rated Freestanding Dishwashers Conclusion
