UK Dishwasher Dimensions and Sizing Guide

In the UK, dishwashers are available in a variety of sizes and configurations. This is to ensure that they are suitable for wherever they’ll be positioned. Some will happily sit on a counter or tabletop. Others are slimmer in profile and slot into narrower spots. There are also full-sized, semi-integrated and fully integrated ones too.

This dishwasher dimensions and sizing guide is offered to make it clearer for visitors about what to expect with these different product types. This way, you won’t be playing a guessing game about what dishwasher you should be seeking to fit in your dorm, a smaller kitchen, or other locations.

So, let’s dive in.

Note: As is the case with all dishwasher models, check the exact dimensions and compare them to the available space. Consider that the height of a unit is also an indicator of how tall the door is and subsequently how much space is required in front of the unit for sufficient clearance to lower the door and pull out the sliding trays to load (or unload) items. Also, allow around 1cm or greater space on either side and the top is beneficial. Furthermore, allow extra space at the back for water pipes and other necessary connections.

Dishwasher Dimensions and Sizes

Tabletop Dishwasher Size

Table top dishwasher

The tabletop dishwashers are compact models for rentals, dorms, small kitchens and other places where space is at a premium. Subsequently, they don’t require the same available space as a full-sized dishwasher does. Also, they manage 6 place settings too.

To get a better gauge of the size, a tabletop dishwasher has similar (albeit bigger) dimensions to a big microwave oven. It’s taller, but you get the idea.

A tabletop dishwasher might have dimensions close to 55cm in width, around 44cm in height and a depth of approximately 50cm.

Our top 3 recommended tabletop dishwashers and their dimensions:

  1. Klarstein Amazonia 6 – 55cm (w) x 49.5cm (d) x 43.5cm (h)
  2. Bosch Serie 4 – 55.1cm (w) x 50cm (d) x 45cm (h)
  3. electriQ 6 – 55cm (w) x 50cm (d) x 43.8cm (h)

Note: We also highly recommend the larger Klarstein Amazonia 8 model, which has the same width and depth but a height of 59cm.

Freestanding Slimline Dishwasher Size

Bosch Serie 2 Slimline Dishwasher

The slimline dishwasher is perfect for making use of narrower spaces while still being a freestanding model. These models offer 9 to 10 place settings within their typical configuration.

For measurements, the width tends to be either 44.6cm, 44.8cm or exactly 45cm. Several manufacturers stick to 45cm for the width. With the height, 85cm seems to be pretty standard across several manufacturers like Beko, Zanussi, Hotpoint, Indesit and Bosch.

For depth, this varies more often. It starts at 59cm for some models, often measures 60cm on a few and maxes out at 62.5cm on bigger models.

Freestanding Full-size Dishwasher Sizes

The freestanding (non-integrated), full-sized dishwasher models have a similar capacity as the integrated full-sized models with a 13-place setting.

Their dimensions are a little different though. The expected width is 59.8cm to 60cm and the height is frequently 85cm, exactly. For the depth, the range is between 59cm and 62.5cm.

Our top 3 recommended full-size dishwashers and their dimensions:

Semi-Integrated Dishwasher Size

Bosch Serie 4 SMI50C16GB semi integrated dishwasher

The semi-integrated dishwasher models are in a category all their own and typically offer as many as 13 place settings. They are built to fit within the design of the existing kitchen cabinets, but their buttons and display panel are still set on the exterior face.

Their measurements feature a width of 59.5cm to 59.8cm and a height of 81.5 to 82cm. The depth is usually between 57.3cm and 57.5cm. However, there are outlier models from companies like Smeg that have dishwashers with a depth of 63cm.

Integrated Dishwashers

The integrated dishwashers are either full-sized or slimline. Therefore, these are available in a variety of sizes for an integrated fitting. A fully integrated dishwasher is designed to fit perfectly within the design of your existing kitchen cabinets. When the dishwasher door is closed, it shouldn’t be obvious that the cabinet space has been replaced with a dishwasher.

Integrated Slimline Dishwasher Size

The slimmer models can handle up to 10 place settings.

These models sport a width of 44.6cm to 44.8cm and a height of 81.5cm to 82cm (one Rangemaster model has an expanding height that’s taller at 87cm). The depth ranges from 55cm to 57cm across the majority of integrated slimline models.

Integrated Full-sized Dishwasher Size

Integrated full size dishwasher

The full-sized integrated models can handle 13 place settings for the largest families or big gatherings.

These models enjoy a width of 59.5cm to 60cm and a height of 81.8cm to 82cm (again, at least one Rangemaster has a height that can be 87.5cm at a stretch). For the depth, 55cm to 57cm in a tight grouping is typical.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do dishwasher measurements include the space needed around them?

No. A dishwasher gets connected to the water supply from the back, so extra space is required there. They shouldn’t be touching either the side cabinet or another appliance anywhere. Also, consider leaving 1cm or greater space on either side because most appliances are “wiggled” into position gradually, rather than lifted, carried and dropped into the right spot. Leaving enough wiggle room is therefore very helpful.

Should under-counter and integrated dishwasher be installed as a tight fit?

Not ideally. Space is still required to move them in and out. If they develop a fault or a water leak at the back, it’s a devil to pull them out again to work on them or replace a broken water hose if the dishwasher is jammed in like a sardine in a can!

How much space do you need to leave behind the dishwasher for ventilation and cables?

Because the dishwasher has a water supply in and out, it’ll need a comfortable amount of space at the back. The tubes cannot be crushed or flattened due to limited space at the back otherwise water won’t flow or they’re more likely to crack under pressure causing water leakage.

Do you need a professional to install a dishwasher? Could you install it yourself?

The dishwasher does need plumbing in with the inflow of freshwater and outflow of wastewater. These parts do not come included with a dishwasher purchase because each plumbing setup is different. You will either need to be confident about purchasing and fitting the necessary parts correctly or hire a plumber who knows exactly what to do and has a competitive quote.
